Fiction...

Joe stood at the bed room door looking at Jane sleep.
From here she looked peaceful and Joe could almost forget about the day he had just lived through, Almost.

The day started like so many others, Joe had an agenda of things to get done, some for the house, some for him.
Jane was already awake when he woke and stumbled into the bathroom.
As he stepped out of the shower he could hear Jane ending a phone call.
"Whats the plan for today?" Jane asked.
This was something Joe had always hated; small talk.
Jane knew what the plan was, She ALWAYS knew what the plan was or is. Deep down Joe felt like she just asked to keep him talking, almost as if she was not comfortable without the constant talking.
"I have to fix the garage door, and then I was going to drive over to Boltown to pick up a part for the race car." Joe said between mouthfuls of scrambled egg.
"Why, Do you have any thing you need to do?"
Jane positioned herself right next to Him as she spoke.
"I was thinking we could do something today."
"Well, We could after I get back with the parts for the car.."
"It's always that car"She said as she brought her hands to her hips.
"I've been working to get it going for the last six months, And I still have not made it to get the parts, Today was the day, You know that."
"But we never do anything together!"
"What was all of last weekend?"
"You know what I mean! If you cant even spend a little time with your own wife..."
Joe ate in silence as Jane slammed dishes around in the sink. Making a big dramatic scene.
"Look, I will go get the part on my bike, I will be back in no time."
Jane just glared and went back to banging dishes around.

Joe sat on the black Honda as the engine warmed up.
Today, was not good. This was something he usually enjoyed; the sound and smell of the machine waking up. But not today, He just felt numb and a little resentful.
Joe took hold of the clubman bars and pulled out into the street.
Nothing to do but go get the part and hope the ride would blow the mood
The trip to Bolton was 125 miles of highway with lots of straits with the occasional curve. It was at mile 54 that Joe had to pull off the highway and stop for gas and a bottle of water.
Joe gassed the bike up and bought a bottle inside the station. Sitting on the bike he drank and called the parts shop.
"You have reached Part's Inc. We are closed today, Off racing at the Nationals in Iowa, We will be back next week." The voice on the machine said.
Fuck! Nothing was going right!
it was this moment that the battery in the phone died.
O.k. So now what?
Joe sat and drank slowly.
I could go home. He thought to himself.
Take the long way back, get home before I would have if I had gone to the parts shop anyway!
And with that casual decision Joe Changed his life forever.

It was just past Five when Joe turned up his street. He was ahead of schedule and was thinking about taking Jane to the movies as he rolled up the street.
The street was tree lined and had that feel of a small town, clean but old.
The gutter was full of leaves and as Joe got closer to home a question popped into his mind; Who do we know owns a B.M.W.?
as far a Joe could remember, no one he knew owned a B.M.W. so the what was one doing parked in his driveway?
He parked the bike on the street in front of his house and sat for a moment as he pulled off his helmet and set it on the mirror.
Thats a nice car. he thought to himself. and pulled his jacket off and hung it off the right grip.
The house was quiet and Joe walked through it to the kitchen. No sign of Jane.
He pulled a bottle of water out of the fridge and began to drink then noticed something.
There in the back yard.
It's Jane, but what the well is she doing?
Joe's mind was working against him, doing all it could to make sure that Joe could not see Jane, naked in the back yard, bent over the picnic table, with...What is that, HOLY SHIT!
JANE IN THE BACK YARD WITH ANOTHER MAN!!!
Joe stood for a moment, Trapped in indecision, Move, yell, puke? What to do?
Go upstairs and get the gun from the closet and shoot that mother fucker!
No No NO! Not going to go to prison for her, pull it together.
Joe closed the water bottle and walked out the front door.
Push the bike up the block, Don't want them to know I know...
Oh god, Think I am going to be sick...

Joe sat on the curb and watched his house from a block away.
Sat and watched.
Sat and drank water, a little at a time.
Two hours later the man walked from Joe's front door, with Jane by his side. The two stood by the B.M.W. for a while, then exchanged a deep kiss and parted.
Hmmm, Jane doesn't seem to care if the neighbors see what she's up to.
Joe waited for another hour before he was feeling strong enough to go into his house and not go insane.

Joe parked his Honda in the garage and left the helmet and jacket on the garage floor.
He walked into the house and stepped into the bathroom.
A long shower helped get the road off him, but his mind was a muddle of questions and hurt anger.
Joe dried off and thought for a while before walking naked to the bedroom.

Jane was there, in the blankets. She looked asleep, and from where Joe stood she looked peaceful.
He stood and watched her for a while.
Jane stirred.
"You just get in?" she asked.
Try to keep a calm voice Joe, He thought.
"Yep."
"Come to bed baby". She said
"Let me make you feel good!" She purred.
Joe climbed into bed and tried not to jump when Jane kissed him.
"You are tense baby." She said "Let me take care of that."
And she started to kiss her way down his belly.
All of a sudden Joe was feeling an evil rage.
What the hell was she doing? Trying to throw him off her track?
Got to keep cool, do not let on.

To be continued.
